LTEC 5210 Blog #3: Method of Loci

When attempting the Method of Loci, I struggled with going through the process of constructing a ‘memory palace’ using visualization techniques. I unfortunately have ADHD, which makes focusing or meditating difficult, so I employ other ways to improve my memory or avoid relying on my memory in the first place. I prefer to create memory aids, by creating notes, compiling documents, outlining important pieces of information, and constructing a repository of information that I can refer back to. I believe that what works best for me may very well work for other people as well.

Furthermore, this exercise requires you to have the ability to visualize things in your mind in the first place, which some people simply cannot do. The inability to construct mental imagery is often referred to as aphantasia and it may impede one’s attempt to employ the method of loci.
